Hyderabad was founded in 1591 by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, who moved his capital from the fortress of Golconda. From the 18th century until 1948, it was ruled by the Nizams, among the richest rulers in the world. Today it is the capital of Telangana and one of India's biggest technology hubs.
The things to do in Hyderabad span four centuries: the Charminar and the bazaars and mosques of the old city, the Nizams' Chowmahalla Palace, the vast Salar Jung Museum, the ruined fortress of Golconda and the domed Qutb Shahi tombs, and the lake of Hussain Sagar. Newer attractions include Ramoji Film City and the Statue of Equality. And there is the food: biryani, haleem, Irani chai and Osmania biscuits.
Two to three days covers the city. October to February is the most comfortable time.
