Coimbatore, often called the Manchester of South India for its textile mills, lies in the Kongu region of western Tamil Nadu, near the Palakkad Gap. It is a pleasant, orderly city with a mild climate, known for engineering, education and the famously sweet water of the Siruvani.
The things to do in Coimbatore include the Adiyogi statue and Isha Yoga Centre in the Velliangiri foothills, hill temples such as Marudamalai, the carved Perur Pateeswarar Temple, the Kovai Kutralam falls and the Gass Forest Museum. It is also the gateway to Ooty, Valparai and the Anamalai Tiger Reserve.
One day covers the city's highlights; add days for the hills. October to March is the most comfortable time.
