Pelling, at about 2,150 metres in the Gyalshing (West Sikkim) district, is best known for its close, uninterrupted view of Kanchenjunga and its neighbouring peaks. The town itself is small and mostly made up of hotels, but the area around it is rich in history: Rabdentse was the second capital of the Sikkimese kingdom, and Pemayangtse is one of the state's most important monasteries.
The things to do in Pelling include watching sunrise on the mountains, visiting Pemayangtse and Rabdentse, walking the glass skywalk at Sanga Choeling, and day trips to Khecheopalri Lake, Kanchenjunga Falls and Yuksom.
Two days is a comfortable length; keep a spare morning in case clouds hide Kanchenjunga.
