Tirupati, in Andhra Pradesh, lies at the foot of the Seshachalam hills. On the hilltop at Tirumala stands the Sri Venkateswara Temple, dedicated to a form of Vishnu, which receives tens of thousands of pilgrims every day and is one of the richest and most visited religious sites in the world. The temple is run by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
The things to do in Tirupati centre on the darshan at Tirumala, often combined with walking up the hill on one of the ancient footpaths, offering hair (tonsure) and collecting the famous laddu prasadam.
