Spiritual Tourism in Andhra Pradesh: Tirupati, Srisailam and Srikalahasti

Andhra Pradesh is home to Tirumala, one of the most visited shrines in the world, and a string of major temples from the hills to the coast.

4 min read · Updated September 2026

For most pilgrims, Andhra Pradesh means Tirumala, the hill temple of Sri Venkateswara above Tirupati, run by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). Darshan and accommodation are booked through TTD's official system, and many pilgrims climb to the temple on one of the stepped footpaths.

The state has much more: Srisailam, both a Jyotirlinga and a Shakti Peetha, Srikalahasti, Kanaka Durga on Indrakeeladri hill at Vijayawada, Simhachalam and Annavaram near Visakhapatnam, the nine Narasimha shrines of Ahobilam, Lepakshi's painted temple and the ancient Buddhist site of Amaravati.

Quick answer

Andhra Pradesh's main spiritual destinations are Tirumala (Sri Venkateswara) and the temples of Tirupati, Srikalahasti, Srisailam (Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga and Bhramaramba), Kanaka Durga at Vijayawada, Simhachalam and Annavaram near Visakhapatnam, Ahobilam and Lepakshi. Tirumala darshan and rooms are booked on the official TTD website. October to March is the best time.
