From Mumbai, many of Maharashtra's most important shrines are a day's drive or a short train ride away.

4 min read · Updated September 2026

Mumbai sits within easy reach of Maharashtra's pilgrim heartland. Trimbakeshwar and Nashik are about three to four hours away, Shirdi five to six, and Bhimashankar about five. Pune, the base for the Ashtavinayak temples, is under three hours by the expressway.

The city itself has some of the most visited shrines in western India, from Siddhivinayak to Haji Ali and Mount Mary, and the Global Vipassana Pagoda at Gorai.
