Pilgrimage Trips from Delhi: Temples and Shrines Within Reach

Some of north India's most important shrines are within a day's drive or a short train ride of Delhi.

4 min read · Updated September 2026

Delhi is a good base for pilgrimages. Mathura and Vrindavan are about three hours away, Haridwar and Rishikesh five to six, and fast trains reach Amritsar, Ajmer and Katra in a few hours more.

The city itself has major shrines: Akshardham, Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, the dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin, the Lotus Temple, ISKCON and Chhatarpur. This guide groups trips by the time they need.
