Patnitop is a hill resort at about 2,000 metres in Udhampur district, around 110 km from Jammu. It sits on a wooded plateau on the old Jammu–Srinagar highway, with dense deodar and pine forest and views across the Chenab valley.
Since the Chenani–Nashri tunnel opened in 2017, highway traffic bypasses Patnitop, which has made it quieter. The things to do here are simple: forest walks and meadows, viewpoints such as Nathatop, paragliding at Sanasar, old temples, and snow in winter.
One to two days is enough. Snow usually arrives between late December and February, and it is the most popular time to visit.
For how to get there, when to go and where to stay, see our Patnitop travel guide.
