Wayanad is a hilly district in northern Kerala, on a plateau of the Western Ghats bordering Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It is known for its forests, which are part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, its spice, coffee and tea estates, and a large population of indigenous communities. Kalpetta, Mananthavady and Sulthan Bathery are its main towns.
The things to do in Wayanad include the Edakkal Caves with carvings thousands of years old, the climb to Chembra Peak, Banasura Sagar Dam, waterfalls, wildlife safaris at Muthanga and Tholpetty, Kuruva Island in the Kabini river, and plantation stays.
