Adventure Activities in Uttarakhand: Rafting, Treks, Skiing and More

Uttarakhand has India's busiest rafting river, its most popular snow treks and a mountaineering institute in the heart of Garhwal. Here is how to plan adventure across the state.

5 min read · Updated September 2026

Uttarakhand has two Himalayan regions, Garhwal in the west and Kumaon in the east, and a band of foothills along the plains. Rishikesh, where the Ganga leaves the hills, is the state's adventure gateway, with rafting, bungee jumping and riverside camps a few hours from Delhi. Higher up, Garhwal has many of India's most popular treks, from winter snow walks to the Valley of Flowers.

This guide covers adventure activities across the state. For temples, hill stations and sightseeing, see our Uttarakhand travel guide and the things-to-do guides for each town.

Quick answer

The best adventure activities in Uttarakhand are river rafting, bungee jumping and camping around Rishikesh, winter snow treks such as Kedarkantha, Brahmatal and Kuari Pass, summer and monsoon treks such as Har Ki Dun and the Valley of Flowers, skiing at Auli when snow allows, water sports on Tehri Lake and paragliding near Bhimtal. Rafting pauses in July and August; snow treks run from December to March.

Key takeaways

  • Rishikesh has rafting from about September to June, an 83-metre bungee jump and riverside camps.
  • Kedarkantha, Brahmatal, Kuari Pass and Dayara Bugyal are the state's winter snow treks.
  • The Valley of Flowers blooms in July and August; the roads there are landslide-prone.
  • Auli has skiing when snow allows; its ropeway from Joshimath has been closed since 2023.
  • NIM in Uttarkashi runs mountaineering courses in Garhwal.
